Blog Entry #1-Why did I choose this class?

I chose this class because it sounded interesting when I was reading the course description and I was attracted to how does reel food can impact our society, class and identity. I want to know the idea of analyzing different films relate and the  meaning how we can use food in the movies and in our daily life. Another reason I chose this class because I want to get out of my comfort zone and have a growth mindset taking this course. I want to know more about different movies relating how many cultural and interaction  the world. I have a basic meaning of how to create a movie. The idea of getting to watch movies for class and have a discussion based on what we learned sounds fun to me. I also want to see how I learn and branch out of my knowledge throughout this course.   

In this course I want to accomplish a deeper understanding how food can impact the cultural and many people in the world. I want to learn how the food how can change people's mood and motivation. I want to learn more about how I could grow as a McDaniel student in this course. I hope to be a successful analyzing movies, so that I can apply in real world situations. My major is Kinesiology, I have to analyze human movements and which food is healthy for the human body. Addition, everyone has a different  body a diet for food that we eat everyday. In sports, Food is a huge key because you can see your performance in school and at your job. In this course, I hope to learn about the different ways in which countries and cultures around the world in different ways to express food from the cooks in the movies and the language that reflect who they are.  

My favorite film about food is “Ratatouille” by Brad Bird; this is probably my favorite film featuring food because it one great chef that is a rat becoming a great chef. During the movie, the rat named Remy, he has a good sense of which food is better than trash at the beginning. Ramy have a conflict between his father who is a leader in the pack of rats. Throughout the film, Ramy moves Paris to follow his dream; which help a garbage boy Linguini he put his culinary skills to the test in the kitchen. Overall, Ramy have a chance to prove his skills and abilities to a great food critic.

What is the Thanksgiving holiday? The holiday is a day for a group of people to celebrate that everyone is done with work, This holiday is often enjoyed with family members. In the custom of a holiday, in specific Thanksgiving, the food is often traditional like turkey, ham and mashed potatoes. Dr. McNichols, during her guest lecture on Like Water for Chocolate , discusses the  history of Mexico and Spain as it relates to traditions depicted in the book. During the film, two characters fall in love with each other, but their love creates a conflict between their families . Dr. McNichols helped explain where these traditions came from, and why they played such an important role in the story.   This movie Like Water for Chocolate by Alfonso Arau is set in a Mexico Village, where two young characters fall in love. Unfortunately, their family traditions are blocking their love. Tita is the main character who is a young woman that has a unique talent for cooking. Blog Entry 3: Love and Romance

How does Sandra Nettelbeck, “Mostly Martha” represent love and romance in the film? The love and romance are similarities shown through a mystery storyline that audiences aren’t expecting to happen. The two characters develop deep feelings with each other and switch a piece of the storyline. The storyline made up of the four main roles are sound quantity, narrative, lighting, and cooking.   First, sound quantity plays an important role in this film through the background music. It expresses the character's emotions and body language. For example, the smooth music playing in the background while Martha and Mario taste soup brings to mind love and romance.  A “narrative structure is a series of events related to one another in terms of cause and effect” ( Film studies pp32) the First scene of the movie is the voiceover of a black screen with the title of the movie.
