How does Big Night and Dinner Rush are similar and different? They are both food movies because they are serving food to people at their restaurants. Also, They are both serving Italian food dishes at the tables. The difference between both movies is the time of each movie because in Big Night is in the 1950s serving a traditional Italian dish in Jersey Shore. Dinner Rush is a modern time and they are serving non-traditional Italian food in Manhattan. The main similarities and differences are how food is prepared, served, and eaten in both movies?
How do both movies prepare their food? In Big Night, they are two characters who are running the restaurant, they are Primo and Secondo. Both brothers left their homes to reach their dreams by opening an Italian restaurant during the 1950s. The brothers have different personalities and traditionally run their restaurant, therefore they have a conflict with each other. Their personality for Primo is the oldest brother and he always follows the family and Italian traditional dishes. He is the main chef. For Secondo who is the youngest brother. He is the manager in the restaurant, so he does not follow the Italian tradition as well as Primo. In Big Night, three people are running the kitchen: Primo, Secondo, and Cristiano. For example, at The beginning of the scene, there are a couple in their restaurant, but the lady asked if they aren’t meatballs on her plant, so the couple buys a side of meatball, but Primo didn’t like the couple because they ruin the traditional Italian dish. The restaurant does not have enough people and it is struggling.
In Dinner Rush is a more modern time because they have a group of chefs cooking different types of foods in the Kitchen. The chefs have their jobs to serve the customer’s foods. The restaurant always packs people who want to eat at the place. The characters of the movie are Louis, Chef Undo, and Dancun. These characters are the most important characters throughout the movie. Louis is the “GodFather” who runs the restaurant and he has a son. Louis’s son named Undo who is the chef leader running the kitchen that is serving fancy Italian food. Undo does not follow nontraditional Italian recipes in his Kitchen. Duncan is like the second son for Louis because Dancun makes real traditional Italian food for Louis. Duncan is the main soup chef. He has trouble through the movie by betting money that he lost by Blue and Black. Blue and Black is a gangster who wants 20% of the restaurant and Dancun’s money. In the end, Louis gives Undo the whole restaurant, but Louis wants half of the percent. Blue and Black died by a hitman in the restaurant.
The differences between Big Night and Dinner Rush do relate to a restaurant as art and business? Big Night is more related to the art form of it because the movies show as if they can relate to more Italian tradition instead of the food aspect of it. I mean, Primo and Secondo’s restaurant have a lot of pictures of their hometown. Also, when they have finished the timpani, they both act like it was an artwork. Dinner Rush related to the more business side of things because Undo wants his father to give him the full percentage of the restaurant. Also, the setting of the restaurant is modern because the lighting is classical and formal for people who want to eat there. For example, when the power of the light was off, the staff were faster and trying to light the candle and putting them on every table. When they display the candles, they are the “drinks on the house” that make the customers satisfied. So, Dinner Rush is more business, and Big Night is more art in both films.
In conclusion, both films are similar because they are Italian restaurants serving foods in different parts of New York. Dinner Rush does have non-traditional and transitional Italian to follow through the film but has much in Big Night. They both are serving in their restaurant and follow their dreams in different periods. Overall, they are similar and different in both films by showing the ways of their Italian restaurants.
