Blog Entry 12

At the beginning of spring semester I was ready to start the classes strong including this course of Reel Food & World Cinema because I  wanted to gain experience in different departments on McDaniel requirements for the McDaniel plans. When the first week of classes were adapting into a new environment. In this course, I was unprepared to attend this class because it isn’t my “comfort zone”, but I know only the basics of film and the structure, but not the whole concept of Cinema. When the first week was finished, I had a drive to start this course strong to write the first blog entry. It will continue my ability to submit  the blog entries on time. Yet, I hit  a wall to stop me from continuing the blog effectively. It was during the middle of the semester where midterm was coming up soon. Everything mental and physical didn’t function as well in the classrooms and on blogs. When the midterm was done and I had a break, I had the energy to keep going strong as if the challenge kept coming to me.
I have done and learned in the semester. I have kept a positive mindset  and being myself through this semester, if I have a breakdown with a friendship or personal issues, I know at the end the hard work always pays the price every time. The challenge is discipline to face the problem if you cannot handle it as if I do not know much about the question or topic, but I tried my best to see the result. The result is having an open mindset to growth and learning about your strength and weaknesses. Even though I have a learning disability I am not different than the avenger people who attend higher college or GPA. They are probably dealing with the same issues as me, but dealing with it differently. I realized that nobody is perfect  in this world. Whether you are the smartest in your class or not, everyone is reaching the same goal to graduate in college or generally school.
How I like the films and material we covered was interesting because  I didn’t expect food films to have much vocabulary to apply in the movies we watched and read. I learned that I respect people who are  majors in the Cinema department at McDaniel college. I am the average person who watches films for enjoyment. Now, I can apply my knowledge that I  learned and we covered. The material we covered was hard for me to answer because I do not understand the questions, but When I do try my best to answer it. When I watch the films, I do really like how they display the food and how the narration and plot changes every minute through all the films we watched. It's challenging for me to explain the films because I attend to overthink the answers. I spend enough time reading around two hours to understand the material.
Which film was your favorite and why? My favorite film was The 100 Foot Journey  because it was romantic as the two characters grow throughout the film.  Hassan and Marguerite are very good partners and chefs. You can see at the beginning of the first scene between them that they had a connection. The setting of the movie was in London, a place where “true love” comes into your life. Hassan’s family founded a place to build a  Indian restaurant and crossing was another restaurant. The owners were funny to show the audiences the comedy side of the film as well the development of the two restaurant owners. When they have an agreement for Hassan working with Madame Mallory, his father won’t accept because he knows that he will give his son away. Finally,  Hassan went to experience working in  a popular restaurant in London, but his passion for food was not there. He went back home, he cooked with Madame Mallory and brought Marguerite back to the kitchen. Hassan gained his passion for food back. Overall, the film is my favorite because the storyline had a happy ending because Hassan went home to meet his family. Family is very important to spend time with your family.
